Yacht club junior sailing academy on the Hudson River offering sailing instruction and boating safety for ages 9-16, from beginner skills through competitive racing techniques. Two four-week sessions run in July and August and families may choose either or both; the daily schedule is 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in a fleet of Optimist prams, O'pen Bics and Club 420s. Most of the day is spent sailing, with breaks for classroom instruction and a midday lunch and swim in the club pool; campers bring a bagged lunch or order from the pool snack bar. Running since the 1960s, the academy adds member-hosted 'Big Boat Days' cruises and Wednesday night races.
