Over the past four years, Orca has been consistently incredible. She started out with Ms. Sydney, who we called the Water Whisperer because she taught my daughter to swim on her own, put her face in the water, and go under water. She graduated to Ms. Johanna, who taught her the various strokes, to dive, to tread water, side breathing, etc. But more importantly, Ms. Sydney and Ms. Johanna taught my daughter to love being in the water and to be confident about her abilities. She was gently guided and not pushed. They gave her room when she was afraid, and encouraged her just the right amount when she was ready. I should also say that Orca is a great organization. The instructors are kind, the staff are friendly and helpful, and you can really get to know them as people. The organization is diverse by race, class, ability and has a commitment to teaching everyone who wants to swim to swim. To me, that's been a great gift.
