The gym is decent overall, but sometimes the equipment can get a little crowded during peak hours. They have a great variety of classes, though, and the instructors are super motivating. Just wish they had more space!
Pool classes are fun. Group classes are fun too, but my beef is with the financial department. I have a scholarship but they keep charging me full price. People at the desk don't care. Tired of being overcharged.
The updated play area for the children is really great. The pool is great besides the splash pad which is barely ever open . I enjoy the small gym area. I wish they would fix the wooden steps. They recently moved the kids room again. Now the kids room is downstairs right next to the Zumba room. The kids room sounds like a damn club. You can’t hear anyone talking and I’m afraid my daughter’s hearing can get some damage if she’s in there for long. I really love the YMCA, but I wish they would have the kids room in a safer, more calm quiet area.
Unfortunately I can't give zero stars. This place is an absolute disaster unless you're there for the pool or child care, which seems to be all they care about; whatever brings them the most money. Freezing cold showers. Tiny, decrepit, and unsafe weight room, which of course was also downsized for more kid space. Equipment in both the weight room and main fitness area missing bolts and falling apart. Treadmills not cared for and slip which is a knee injury waiting to happen. Not to mention endless lawsuits waiting to happen for that and everything else. Unsupervised children everywhere; to include my wife's car getting hit with a basketball multiple times in the private lot out back last week. All staff (fitness, lifeguards, front desk, etc.) constantly on their cell phones and not doing a single bit of work. As for the credibility of this review, I worked at this Y for 9 years (held to much higher standards then), have a BS in exercise science, worked for years as a personal trainer, worked on fitness equipment for over a year, and currently manage a gym. If you must go to a Y, do yourself a favor and make the drive up 44 to Middleboro, since Taunton is an absolute embarrassment.
