Oakland Rd. Art Club runs summer art camp for ages 8-12 out of a Maplewood studio built around upcycling: campers work with fine-art, crafting and reclaimed materials and learn techniques for turning discarded objects into finished pieces. The program is framed around collaborative creative problem-solving rather than a fixed project list, and the club also runs shorter workshops. Camp dates and daily hours are not published.

My kids adore Oakland Road and Katey. They’re really happy with the variety of supplies and tools and most of all, the freedom to make whatever they want. I love their enthusiasm heading there and how it fires up their imagination. It’s always fun to see what they bring home. One said “It’s so surprising and cool what you can create with a bunch of recycling” and the other said “it’s the best.”

We absolutely love Katey and Oakland Road Art Club. While so many other art camps lean towards craft-like projects, our children have thrived with the freedom at Oakland Road to explore different materials and push themselves creatively to create. Katey is a wonderful advocate for their ideas, helping them not only figure out what to work on but giving advice on how to make their inspirations into reality. This camp is truly the RISD for kids and we've loved our experience there.

I can't say enough about how much we love Oakland Road. It's the rare art class where kids truly engage materials, lead their own process, and are supported in every way you can imagine. "It gives Katey" is my middle schoolers way of describing inclusive, creative spaces. If you have a creative, funky kid who loves to create, this is the place for them.

If your child (or yourself) hasn’t been to the Oakland Rd Art Club, you are truly missing out. Katey’s garage is a wonderland space of creativity and invention. My kids have rated in the best summer camp, holiday camp and after school in Maplewood. I cannot believe the creations they bring home which also inspires them to do more sans screens in our own house. You will not regret sending your kid here or catching your own adult event

Katey, the owner of Oakland Road, is an absolute GEM. There is nobody like her, and there is no space like the one she has lovingly created. My (sometimes salty) pre-teen absolutely adores spending Friday nights at Oakland Road After Dark. It is a place to experiment, make things, chat and learn. Anything you could want to make art with is there for you, along with acceptance of who you are and encouragement to find your path. In addition to being a talented artist, Katey is the cool adult we all wish we could have spent time with as a pre-teen/teen, and I am thrilled my daughter has Oakland Road and Katey as she blossoms into an artist and adult.
