Carousel Day School runs a private-campus summer day camp in Hicksville for ages 2 to 15, built around twice-daily swimming in three heated pools with American Red Cross instruction during one swim period each day. Campers are grouped by age and grade: half-day 'Puddles' for 2-year-olds, Tiny Tots for ages 2 to 4, then traditional day camp for K through 5th grade and travel-based Tween and Super Senior programs for 6th through 10th grade that mix on-grounds days with off-site trips. The five-acre grounds hold three playgrounds, four athletic fields, a deck hockey rink, gaga courts and high and low zip-line challenge courses. Camp runs 9:00am-4:00pm with extended hours from 7:00am to 6:00pm; sessions are 4, 6 or 8 weeks at 3, 4 or 5 days per week, and tuition includes lunch, door-to-door bus transportation in limited areas, trips and snacks.

There were two big old 40’s cars with the doors removed in the yard for us to play in. We learned songs accompanied by a piano-playing teacher and painted while wearing one of our fathers’ old dress shirts buttoned on backward. I have the fondest of memories and, given that Carousel’s still there 58 years later, I can only assume that my fondness has been shared by countless other alumni.
