Needed to sharpen up on swimming as a Boy Scout parent going on a scout adventure that requires adult swim test, jumped in the pool 2 months ago and realized I needed a lot of help, Other parents in troop 1 mentioned Marcelo at the ymca, so I joined 1 of his swim classes and also signed up for private lessons, after 2 swim classes and a 30 minute private lesson with Marcelo, I am a significantly more confident swimmer, He has helped my Form, breathing, and endurance while calming my fear of deep water and anxiety to stay afloat. He is a very proficient instructor. Everyone along the way in setting up appointments and the cost were very helpful. I was capable of setting everything up very quickly, didn’t have to wait for lessons and I can work in private on my schedule, he has been very flexible.

I would not recommend this YMCA location to parents after the experience my daughter recently had. My daughter has attended this YMCA since pre-K and we never had issues until this situation involving a staff member. What was most concerning to me was not only the way the staff member allegedly yelled at and got into my child’s face, but also the way the situation seemed to be handled afterward. As a parent, I do not believe it is appropriate for adults working with children to raise their voices at kids or get into their personal space during conflicts. I was also disappointed that there seemed to be more focus placed on my 11-year-old daughter’s reaction than on the adult staff member’s behavior that led to the situation in the first place. My daughter took accountability for her reaction, but I did not feel the same level of accountability was expected from the adult involved. That was very upsetting to me as a parent and ultimately led to my decision to remove my daughter from the program. I have also heard concerns and complaints from other parents and children regarding this same staff member, which made the situation even more concerning to me. Unfortunately, it felt as though the issue was being overlooked rather than properly addressed, possibly because the program is understaffed. I understand children can sometimes be challenging, but staff members working with kids should know how to handle situations calmly, professionally, and appropriately. Because of this experience, I no longer feel comfortable with my child attending this YMCA.

I swim regularly at the New Rochelle YMCA and it’s honestly one of the best parts of my routine. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming—always helpful and genuinely nice, which makes a big difference. There’s a real sense of community here, not just a place to work out. The pool is consistently clean and well maintained, and the steam shower after a swim is a great bonus. Overall just a fantastic facility—highly recommend if you’re in the area.

I am taking swimming lessons for adults at the New Rochelle YMCA. I am an OK swimmer but I wanted to get better. Marcello is my swim coach and every week I have been very satisified with the level of instruction I am receiving. In just three weeks I really feel like my skill level has improved a decent amount. I look forward to class every week and additionally, I find the faciilities - both locker room and pool - to be quite good. And the front desk and aquatics staff have been helpful and friendly. Five stars all around!

We started swimming lessons with Marcello,and We absolutely loved him, we spent 1 year on another location and with only one class he achieved what other instructors were unable to do. My daughter put her head under the water several times, which is a big accomplishment for her since she has always been very afraid of the water.
