Powered by GoogleA Parent's Perspective – By Mike I cannot say enough wonderful things about the summer camp experience at the YMCA, especially at the Leonard & Marjorie Williams Family YMCA. My kids attend summer camp there, and every day I am elated when they come home because they can't wait to tell me about their adventures. The marvelous memories begin the moment they walk through the doors each morning. From exciting activities to new friendships, every day seems to bring a new story. One of my favorite parts is hearing the camp songs they learn in their Creative Movement/dance. Before I know it, they're singing classics like "Going Over the Sea" and "She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain." My personal favorite is "Sing Your Way Home." As I glance at them in my rearview mirror on the drive home, happily singing and smiling, I am reminded just how special these childhood moments are. When researching summer camps, I explored many options, but the Leonard & Marjorie Williams Family YMCA was the only camp near my home that offered Creative Movement classes for summer camp attendees. That program has been an incredible addition to my children's summer experience. Ms. Penny, my children's Creative Movement and Dance teacher, is simply the best. Her enthusiasm, patience, and creativity make every class something the kids look forward to. More importantly, I appreciate how she helps preserve the magic of childhood by giving children a space to be imaginative, act silly, express themselves, and simply be kids. Thank you to Ms. Penny and the entire YMCA team for creating a summer filled with joy, laughter, music, movement, and memories that my children will carry with them for years to come.
So I was trying to wait to see if I would be able to get this resolved before writing a review. So I signed up for adult swim classes and the first location I signed up for the pool did not open until June so they had to switch me to this ymca that process took me two days of calling back and forth and it was finally switched the day of the first lesson. The first lesson was great we had Maddie she showed us how to kick, go under water as well as getting comfortable with the kickbacks to swim. She told us the next week she would not be there me and the class thought she was out of town and would be back for week three but come to the surprise we had the same young girl for week two and three. She was nice but week two was pretty awkward and she had us show her what we learned last week then after that she pretty much stood in one spot and moved occasionally the whole class but did not instruct on on what to do or what we were learning. We asked her to show us how to float and also different strokes to swimming and she pointed to her hair as if she did not want to get it wet. Third week I was upset but still trying to teach myself how to float as well as swim with the kickback I went under a few times but still tried. But I feel if im paying to learn a skill the instructor should know what we are doing and being able to actually show us instead of us just figuring it out on our own. I would be happy if anyone reaches out as I have been calling since last Friday and I was able to get a email but no response afterwards. I would recommend finding a place to actually learn to swim which would be worth your money. Update no one has still responded to emails and voicemails
Sandra was incredibly kind and gave me a thorough tour of the facility. Everyone at the front desk was warm and welcoming. Mila, one of the personal trainers, came down to meet me and was so helpful and encouraging. Out of the three YMCA locations I toured, this one had by far the best customer service. As someone who is new to going to the gym, it can feel a little intimidating, but they made me feel completely at ease. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
My experience at the Y has been amazing. I’ve been coming here for about a year now, and it truly feels like family and community. The staff are always so warm, welcoming, and friendly, which makes a big difference. The facility is clean, spacious, and has great equipment. I especially appreciate how open the workout area feels. If I had one suggestion, it would be to possibly consolidate some of the treadmills and ellipticals upstairs to make room for additional gym equipment. That said, the gym is still fairly new, and I’m excited to see the improvements that come in the future. Overall, I really enjoy coming here!
I was so excited a new Y was opening close to me and I love the Packing District YMCA—it is so clean and beautiful, has a friendly staff, and an amazing variety of classes and equipment. My favorite thing is HABIT class with Penny! She is such a fun, inspiring, and creative instructor—she keeps the class going by changing up the activities, great music, and never being repetitive. She motivates us by helping us see our gains; plus makes us laugh—“that’s spaghetti strap behavior!” The core group of attendees to the class are so supportive and friendly, they even helped me figure out the set up my first class. I look forward to the class and it always makes me smile and elevates my mood. In addition, my family loves the pool and my son loves the Teen room. I’m so thankful for the YMCA in our community!
