I’ve had a great experience at the Lake Nona YMCA. The staff is professional and very welcoming—they greet you when you enter and say goodbye or good night when you leave, which creates a friendly, community-oriented environment. The facility is clean and well maintained. The gym is well equipped with machines, the pool area is clean, and the basketball court is a great addition. One small concern is phone use on machines. Sometimes people sit on equipment for 20 to 30 minutes while using their phones, which can hold up others waiting. It might help to add more reminder stickers encouraging members to limit phone use and be considerate of others’ time or if staff occasionally walk around and politely remind people to be mindful when others are waiting. Overall, it’s a great facility with excellent staff and a clean environment.

Today was my first appointment with a personal trainer. Nate was very professional and helpful. He listened to my concerns, what I was looking to accomplish, and suggested machines that I can use within my medical restrictions. He is an asset to the Lake Nona YMCA!!

The way these YMCA locations operate so unprofessionally is extremely alarming. At this point, if you want better swimming lessons, you honestly need to leave Orlando and go to another area. I paid for private swimming lessons and was told that I needed to email Lauren. I did, and she replied saying she had already sent me an email the day before. That’s when I realized I must have misspelled my email address when I filled out the forms in person. I explained that to Lauren in my follow-up email, and she responded by asking about my availability. I told her my schedule, but after that, I heard nothing back for an entire week. I really didn’t like that, so I decided not to continue and instead requested a refund so I could find a different place for lessons. What’s interesting is that it seems like Lauren is never actually there. We called multiple times in the early afternoon, but she was always unavailable. I would constantly hear the front desk staff asking each other if Lauren was even there that day, and the answer was always no. I did get my refund back, which I appreciate. My only complaint is really about Lauren because she just wasn’t doing her job. I understand private lessons take time to schedule, and I might not have been able to start right away, but at the very least, she could have responded with an update or some kind of follow-up. Instead, there was nothing.
