Learning Outside runs entirely-outdoor, weeklong nature summer day camps on the Triangle Land Conservancy's 269-acre Irvin Nature Preserve near Chapel Hill. Naturalist-led campers learn wilderness skills such as tracking, compass work, wild edibles, fire-making and shelter-building, take daily hikes, play nature games, tend a learning garden and care for farm animals, at a low 5:1 ratio. The nonprofit offers need-based scholarships, including full scholarships for qualifying families.
