Great Y, pool rqb hoops classes full gym... Very good stuff. Sometimes a little busy tho!
I've been to a handful of gyms in the Raleigh area, and this YMCA is by far the biggest and most fleshed out gym of them all. They've got all types of special rooms and technologies, as well as free blood pressure monitoring, weight management, plenty of classes and a dope swimming pool! Even though it's a bit crowded, there's always some space or dumbbells to use. The only problem is the ridiculous guest pass fee of $30 (!) which almost seems like a typo when other commercial gyms give free guest passes...
Sarcastic and smarmy front desk staff. Was considering getting a membership here, and came with a current member since they were told they get guest access 4 times when they got their membership. The worker at the desk asked for a paper guest pass. The member I was with had never receieved one and said such. The guy said we can pay $30 for a day pass and said we probably threw the guest passes away assuming they were junk mail. The member stated she was told when she signed up she was allowed 4 guest accesses through the year and had already had a guest there once where noone asked for a guest pass. The derisive and dismissive tone in his response after an eye roll "were are not a guest pass gym" Told me all I need to know. Definitely not getting a membership here after that. What a jerk. Also never offered to the member to provide her the guest passes since according to him its policy that she have a paper guest pass and she never got them.
I usually enjoy this YMCA, but I need to speak up about an ongoing issue. Due to the ice, the facility opened at 12 PM on Tuesday. However, as soon as the doors opened, the gym floors were immediately given to the pickleball group. I understand pickleball has a scheduled time on Tuesdays, but when opening late because of weather, that schedule should be adjusted so everyone has a fair opportunity to use the gym. Opening at noon and instantly prioritizing one group doesn’t feel fair to other members who also pay to use the facility. This isn’t the first time favoritism toward the pickleball group has been noticeable. I’m not against pickleball at all — I’m simply asking for fairness and equal access for all members. I hope management takes this into consideration moving forward.
