Nature Explorers offers kids the opportunity to play, play, play in open-ended ways where they also learn and grow. I have so much admiration for Grant and Meg for how they got my own reluctant nature explorers (7 and 9 when they attended) to love hours upon hours of outdoor play in the middle of summer! What impresses me the most is how these leaders meet each child where they are, really get to know them in a short amount of time, and obviously ENJOY each child while guiding them through healthy risk-taking and so many new experiences. My kiddos felt safe and appreciated while they got to do exciting new things in the woods each day.

Grant and Meg do an amazing job of presenting all the variety and wonder of nature to kids. Both of my boys (9 and 11) loved going to Nature Explorers. Rain or shine, whether it was hot or freezing cold, they always came home happy and excited to tell everyone all about their adventures. Now, no family visit is complete without a guided hike through Johnston Mill Nature Preserve. Nature Explorers is a awesome program and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants their kids to experience nature, getting wet and dirty, and having fantastic adventures in the magical outdoors.

My boys (5 and 8) love Nature Explorers! Its their favorite summer camp and the only afterschool program that they look forward to. Grant and Meg are so caring, knowledgeable about nature, and fun! Our boys come home muddy, happy, tired, and excited to tell us all they learned during the day. On the weekends they like to take us on hikes at Johnston Mill Preserve to show us all the cool spots they've discovered. Nature Explorers is a wonderful choice for any local kiddos who would like to get into nature in a safe, fun, adventurous environment.

My 9 year olds came home from camp everyday with tales of a new adventure--finding a baby raccoon, spotting deer, holding snakes or whittling an entire dining set! They love their leaders and are proud of themselves for learning outdoor skills and for sometimes toughing out cold and rain and having fun in the process. I love this camp.

My 7 year old has been going to Nature Explorer’s camp since it’s inception and I’ve known Grant Thomas and his family since we were kids growing up in Durham. I am always impressed with Grant’s teaching and leadership style. He’s creative, inclusive, and and responsive. We are all very lucky to have the Nature Explorers program!
