Kare Youth League is a nonprofit San Gabriel Valley youth organization, founded in 1931, that integrates athletics, camping and educational programs; its summer day camp, Club Kare, runs on the Rio Hondo Prep campus in Arcadia and is open to children entering grades 1-6. The seven-week program (June 1-July 17) pairs morning enrichment classes -- including science, robotics and coding weeks -- with afternoon themed activities, water play and game-room time, and each week ends with an all-day Friday outing to sites such as the Aquarium of the Pacific, the LA County Zoo and the California Science Center. Days run 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM around a 9:00 AM flag salute, camp songs and a Bible story; campers bring their own lunch or buy into a paid sack-lunch program.
