Kare Youth League · Private

Club Kare is the summer day camp of Kare Youth League, a nonprofit youth organization that has served the San Gabriel Valley since 1931, held on the Rio Hondo Prep campus in Arcadia. The seven-week program (June 1-July 17) is open to children entering grades 1-6 and pairs morning enrichment classes -- including science, robotics and coding weeks -- with afternoon themed activities, water play and game-room time; each week has a theme and closes with an all-day Friday outing to sites such as the Aquarium of the Pacific, the LA County Zoo and the California Science Center. Days run 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM around a 9:00 AM flag salute, camp songs and a Bible story; campers bring their own lunch or buy into a sack-lunch program, and children from outside Kare Youth League may apply with a recent report card.

It was the boys Christian league back when I attended here from 1971-1978 they would pick us up at school with a bus in Duarte. I enjoyed playing football baseball and basketball I was on the Pirates and we all went camping every summer in the mountains I wouldn’t change it for anything

Organized sports in a nice clean facility wit is with Christian emphasis. Could not have asked for a better combination! Both of my boys have been participating in this organization for about 5 years and we love it!

I belonged to the Kare Youth League back in the days when it was called Boys Christian League. It was run by small group of Christian men who were our coaches. My coach was Mr.Ostergard. We played football, basketball, and baseball. I was always on the same team. My team was dictated by the neighborhood I lived in. That was great because that meant I played on a team with all my friends in the neighborhood. We rode a bus to and from our neighborhood to the facility every day. We practice during the week for the weekend games. There was one condition although if you wanted to play in the weekend game, Wednesday was not a practice but that was the day you were expected to come to the clubhouse for a nondenominational bible study. That was really a good thing that taught me a lot. The games on the weekends were something I will never forget. I am know 71 years old and still remember. We also did a lot more than play sports. We had a lot of adventures like , capture the flag games at. Night in parks around or at the clubhouse. We also went on hikes, bicycle rides and went away for weeks at a time to a camp in the mountains. This is a great place to grow up as a kid and also learn about God. It was never forced down your throat but presented in a way that you could take what you wanted from it. What an experience I had. Thank you so much Mr. Philip Ostergard. Bill Pauley, team Arrowhead

KARE cares. The coaches teach the kids not only the mechanics of the sports they are playing but also sportsmanship and during their club meetings Biblical studies too. KARE may not be as inexpensive as some programs but the life skills are worth more than the cost of entry.
