Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing runs Chicago's adaptive sailing program from the Judd Goldman Sailing Center at Burnham Harbor, giving classroom and on-water instruction to sailors with physical disabilities on a fleet of eight Freedom 20s designed for disabled sailors, plus Sonars and 2.4-metre boats used in world disabled championships; all the boats are stable and will not capsize. The same foundation runs a Junior Sailing Program teaching Chicago inner-city youths ages 8 to 12 in 7'7" Vanguard Prams on the city's renovated water-fed lagoons, an approach designed to bring sailing to the neighbourhood rather than the neighbourhood to the program. Both run as a public/private partnership with the Chicago Park District and aim to help participants build self-esteem and independence.
