Greenwood Music Camp is a summer chamber-music overnight program for middle and high school students on an 80-acre wooded estate in the hills of Cummington. Each camper receives a weekly chamber-music assignment with coached and independent rehearsals, performing on Saturdays. A five-week senior session (up to age 18) runs from July and a two-week junior session (up to age 13) in August; between rehearsals campers swim, play sports, hike Mount Greylock, and join community events. Founded 1933.

★Peter ZakGreenwood Music Camp is known among teachers as a school where families have to apply THREE TIMES just to be admitted, and that alone says a lot about the kind of environment they are creating. Instead of making children jump through endless hoops, Debbie and Becca, why not focus on their actual talent? Making all the children dressed alike in white and barefoot only made the atmosphere feel even more uncomfortable and off-putting. Based on what I saw, I would not feel comfortable sending my students here and will not recommend this camp for any serious music families.

It uniquely balances extremely high level classical music training (in chamber music, orchestra and chorus) with traditional summer camp aspects (such as cabin living, camp activities and sports during free time). The camp has programming for ages 10-18 between two sessions, and draws applicants both locally and from around the world. Greenwood is a wonderful home-away-from-home for young people that nurtures a positive and collegial environment, and one that campers come back to year after year.

This music camp is wonderfully isolated from the rest of the world and instead surrounds you with beautiful greenery. The practice halls are very homely, and the living accommodations are quite decent. Would definitely love to visit again.
