Foss Swim School is a year-round swim-lesson franchise with 11 Minnesota locations; its Vadnais Heights school offers group and private swimming lessons for infants through older children, plus condensed 2-week and 4-week summer swim 'camps' that repackage the same lesson curriculum. It is a swim-lesson business rather than a traditional day camp.

Powered by GoogleI'm disappointed in their customer service, and it is much more expensive than other schools. I wanted to like the concept of safety and fun, but after 3 years of lessons my child (who is athletic and a quick learner) didn't progress past the first level. They recommended to just stick with it, but since my child was getting discouraged, we took a 2-month break. When I went to sign up again, the manager cited a policy change that she wouldn't honor any discount, even though 2 of her staff had told me the Swimmers Guaranteed half off discount would be applied. I asked what the process was to appeal her decision, but she said she couldn't find a way to reach anyone from the corporate office. I found nearly impossible to contact anyone outside of the school on my own, and when I finally reached someone, he promised a discount but never followed up nor followed through. But the worst part is that we invested so much time and money, and instead of giving confidence, my child now wants nothing to do with swimming lessons.
Strongly recommend! We’ve done a couple sessions here and all have been excellent. This session we had a concern which was addressed promptly and management went way above and beyond to correct the situation. It is pricey but totally worth it. The pool area is a quieter and calmer environment compared to typically pools which is helpful in preventing sensory overload in kiddos. My son is currently with Nicole this session and we’ve previously had Hi (Hiraeth) and Milly. All have been very engaging and would highly recommend to anyone and everyone:)
We absolutely love FOSS Swim School! From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re greeted with kindness and positivity. Millie at the front desk is always so welcoming and cheerful — her smile instantly makes both parents and students feel comfortable and excited to be there. During our preview lesson, I was amazed watching the instructor teach. You can truly tell that Miss Abi loves what she does and is incredibly passionate about helping children learn and grow in the water. This is only my daughter’s second exposure to swimming lessons, and after just TWO sessions, the progress has already been incredible to see! What stands out most is how attentive and thoughtful Miss Abi is with every student. She takes the time to assess each child’s individual skills and focuses on exactly what they need to work on, all while keeping lessons fun and encouraging. Her energy, patience, and positive attitude make such a difference. We are beyond grateful for Miss Abi and couldn’t be happier with our decision to sign up for swim lessons at FOSS. Highly recommend to any parent looking for a supportive, fun, and professional swim program for their child!
We love Foss in Vadnais Heights. We’ve been going there with our kids for several years now. When we started, our 6 year old and 4 year old wouldn’t put their faces in the water. We had experienced community Ed lessons, but were frustrated with the lack of specific skills and instruction. Foss is worlds different from community Ed. They are very intentional with what they teach, how they teach, and what indicators of progress they look for. It is a well-designed system to teach swimming skills. Now we have 4 kids in Foss lessons. Just this morning I saw the instructor go underwater with his goggles on in order to evaluate my child’s form during lessons. As an educator, I love this learning environment. They are really stretched by the challenge of learning to swim. It also wears my kids out. ;) If you want to see the magic, come to Foss for a free preview lesson.
We love Foss. My son started in the Baby Back Float classes. He was skeptical but the instructors have done such a great job building up his comfort in the water and he’s making amazing progress. Getting in the water with him it’s soo nice that the pool is warm. He asks everyday if today is swimming. The instructors at Foss love what they do and really make it fun. The schedule offers a variety of dates and times. If you’re debating starting here just do it you won’t regret it.
