We just started our daughter in swim lessons at FOSS at 14 months old, and we’ve had a really positive experience so far. She’s at that classic stranger-danger age, so her first class was tough with lots of tears. Her instructor was incredibly kind, patient, and understanding — not just with my daughter, but with me as a parent too. The instructor made thoughtful adjustments to help her ease into the lesson, warm up at her own pace, and feel less scared. The difference was already noticeable by her second class, and it was so reassuring to see her gain a bit more comfort and confidence so quickly. I’m really looking forward to watching her progress throughout this season and into the next. We’re very happy with our experience at FOSS so far and grateful for such caring instructors.

Foss Swimming School in Plymouth is extremely disappointing and poorly managed. Classes are overcrowded to the point where meaningful instruction is impossible. There are simply too many students per class, and children are left waiting rather than learning. Despite charging premium prices, the school clearly prioritizes enrollment numbers over educational quality and safety. The constant turnover of instructors is another serious problem. Teachers change frequently, with no consistency at all. This disrupts learning, prevents children from building trust with instructors, and shows a lack of professionalism and long-term planning. Overall, Foss Swimming School operates like a business focused on volume and profit, not on student development. The experience does not justify the cost, and I strongly advise parents to look elsewhere for a serious and well-managed swim program.

I am extremely disappointed with Foss Swim School in Plymouth. The constant rotation of teachers and frequent substitutes disrupts any sense of consistency, making it nearly impossible for students to build real progress, especially when learning challenging strokes. The evaluation process feels arbitrary and inconsistent. My child is now being asked to repeat the same “Big 4” level for the fourth time, despite already mastering much of the material. He’s often left bored, waiting for others to finish, and ends up swimming extra laps just to stay engaged. The variation in technique and instruction between teachers is so significant that he struggles to find any repeatability, particularly with the butterfly stroke. Attempts to discuss these concerns with administration (specifically Stephanie) have only led to more frustration, as there seems to be little interest in improving the curriculum or accountability among instructors. For the price, over $600 per season, I expected far more structure, consistency, and measurable progress. Unfortunately, Foss Swim in Plymouth seems more focused on filling classes than on providing quality, effective swim instruction.
