The Elliott Summer Chamber Music Workshop is a one-week intensive classical chamber music program for string players, held at Menchville Baptist Church in Newport News and run by the Elliott Family String Quartet, a mother-and-children ensemble performing together since 2004. Students are placed in trios, quartets or quintets and given two or three level-appropriate chamber works to prepare over the week through coaching sessions, private lessons, required daily individual practice, chamber orchestra rehearsals and reading sessions, ending in a student-and-faculty concert. Applicants need at least one year on their instrument and must read music.
