Coyote Point Yacht Club runs a year-round youth sailing program on San Francisco Bay in San Mateo, organized into four fleets that carry a child from first sail to racing. Beginners ages 8 to 12 learn the fundamentals single-handed in an easy-to-handle Optimist training boat called a Qube; ages 8 to 13 can step up to Intro to Race Optimist, while teens 13 to 18 learn double-handed sailing in CFJs and C420s before joining the double-handed race fleet. Summer youth sailing is sold as numbered sessions through the club, but daily hours and session lengths are not published on the youth sailing pages.

★Neha RaniWent to see the Christmas lighted boat parade this Saturday, dec 17, 2022, from San Jose. It was such a disappointment. The parade did NOT start at 5:30pm, which was the time given on the internet. It was a whole hr late. Waiting for a whole hr for something we were on time for in the chilly winter cold of December is not fun, especially being that close to the water. The boats were not even decorated with a lot of Christmas lights. They had just 1 really nicely decorated boat, and the rest, which weren't that many, just had one Christmas light hanging on it. We had seen a Christmas boat parade in Sacramento once, and they had like 20 to 30 boats, all nicely decorated from top to bottom. And this boat parade was really a letdown, nowhere even close to the one in Sacramento. They did have free food after the parade, but we did not stick around for that. After all, we came for the main attraction, not the food.
