Code Ninjas is a national coding-center franchise whose summer camps teach kids ages 5 to 14 to program through game-building themes such as Roblox, Minecraft, YouTube and LEGO Spike Prime robotics engineering. Camps run Monday through Friday as half-day sessions, either 9:00 a.m. to noon or 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., and families can book both blocks back to back for a full day; weekly tuition is about $250 for a single half-day camp, or $225 per block when both are taken. Year-round, kids progress through a belt system from white belt to black belt, building their own video games in Scratch, JavaScript and Python. This center is at 4636 Del Amo Boulevard, Torrance.

The second Roblox class, part 2, was best for him, since he was interested in coding/scripting and creating his own game. The first one is more for beginners, but he also kept busy there. I highly recommend these classes and they take excellent care of the kids.

I recommend the unlimited hours plan with at least 1-2 hours of Impact each day and the rest of the time with whatever STEAM activity the child prefers. This way the child moves at a good speed through the levels and creates a consistent routine. The senseis (teachers) are really friendly, and my son absolutely loves being here everyday. My son is in 3rd grade and made it to yellow belt with consistency - coming to the dojo 2-4 hours per day. It's really good to have your kids come here to learn and shape their brain with the logic behind coding...kinda the way learning music does.

He started on Scratch and worked his way up the color belts. My daughter loves Roblox so she signed up. We discovered the many other ways they expand the minds of kids with chess, 3D printers, the Oculus. I think every parent should expose their kids to these kinds of fun and relevant areas of future life.
