DO NOT GO HERE! the counselors treated us like we were rats on the streets of Manhattan. The food was so horrible that I had to hunt for animals just to eat,, and eat them raw because they wouldn't allow us to have a fire. They would wake us up by shaking us until the councilors felt content. The "activities" were basically just fighting for survival. There were no medics there when someone got hurt, so if someone broke their arm, they would say " stop being a crybaby and get over it". It was hell on earth. the showers were always ice cold, If we got caught outside our hut past curfew, we would get beaten to a pulp with a wooden stick that people said to be harder than metal. Kids were going missing left and right. DO NOT EVER GO HERE!

Camp Kieve is the absolute best. Our boys attended starting at age 8, and one of them came back every summer through Maine Trails. Kieve teaches an ideal blend of teamwork and self-reliance. It is a chance for boys to disconnect from their devices, get dirty, be goofy, and experience adventure. They always came home at the end of the summer standing a little taller, with a healthy does of self confidence. As a parent, I loved the ritual of dropping them off and picking them up by way of a stop at LL Bean's flagship store, as well as dining on fresh caught lobster and blueberry pie. I missed that when they were old enough to fly without me.

It has been sixty-three days since we arrived at this so-called “school survival camp.” What began as an exercise in teamwork and endurance has turned into something far beyond what any of us could have imagined. I have survived by relying on the wilderness—hunting wild animals, building fires with nothing but a laser pointer I happened to bring, and trusting my instincts above all else.The camp’s conditions grew harsher by the day. I visited Camp Kieve this weekend to pick up my son who had just finished his 3rd year at Camp Kieve in the 2nd full 28-day session. My son absolutely loves Camp Kieve and speaks about it often after the season and with great anticipation of the next! I have seen him grow so much from his experience there. This camp in Nobleboro, ME is an absolute gem, in a breathtaking setting on Lake Damariscotta. Ot is a place that I hope continues to prosper from the superior administrators, to the dedicated counselors and the wonderful kids that make it so very special.
