Camp Greylock is an overnight sports camp for boys ages 6-16, founded in 1916, on a 300-acre campus in the Berkshire mountains with a waterfront running nearly half a mile along Center Lake. Days combine instruction and game play across land sports, an aquatics program of swimming, boating, sailing, waterskiing, kneeboarding and wakeboarding, and an adventure program with hikes, two miles of mountain biking trails, a challenge course with two climbing walls, a ropes course, zip line and archery; the art department offers woodworking, ceramics, painting and mosaics. Sessions are 7, 5 or 4 weeks running late June to mid-August, and over 95% of campers stay the full season. The camp describes itself as instructional rather than competitive, awarding effort and citizenship rather than skill.

★★★★★Jeffrey KargmanI am currently 72 and am the oldest of 4 boys.All of us went to Camp Greylock for Boys.I loved Day Camp, but my parents forced me to go to sleep away camp at 12. I knew one other camper from Elementary School who went to Greylock. I was scared to death. I was a camper for 4 years and a counselor in training for 2 years. I must say up front that my 4 years as a camper were the best 4 years of my life. My first year at 12, I was named the funniest kid in the camp. I was an above average athlete, but I was one of the best tennis players and that really made my experience so much better. Each year the camp had a huge tennis tournament called the Greylock Invitational with at least 15 other camps that participated. The whole camp watched for the whole day. When I was 13, I competed in Junior Doubles and won. What a moment. I must credit my partner and my amazing coach, Ken, the best coach or teacher I ever had. He knew exactly how I played including my strengths and weaknesses. When I was 14, I was named Best All Around Camper and the funniest kid in the camp again. I made some good friends and many of the families were very wealthy compared to ours. It didn’t matter. Greylock was a sports and no one thought of money. We had no TV,s or phones in our bunks and we survived. The counselors were great as were the owners. For the entire 8 weeks no one ever called their parents, but when they came up on visiting day I was the happiest person in the world. When they left I had to hold back my tears. We had Color War, where half the camp competed against the other half. I was one of the only campers who lost every year. When I was 12, I was sitting on the grass and the Captain of the other team came up to me and said he wished I had been on his team. I was shocked and so flattered. So, as I began my 4 years as a camper at Greylock were the best 4 years of my life. I’m glad my parents forced me to go. Jeffrey Kargman MD

★★★★L RAmazing camp with so much to offer! Our son loved his 7 week experience there and the family weekend was spectacular. The children (and parents!) were offered high-quality personal coaching in hockey, baseball, basketball archery, tennis, wood shop, and many other activities. We also enjoyed the boating, fishing, swimming, and water ski activities along with the climbing wall and zip line. The cabins were air conditioned and in good shape, with private toilets and sinks. The communal showers were very clean. We really enjoyed our stay and staff was greatgreat, and who could beat the scenery? They only negative was that in some areas near the cabins, it smelled as if there were an issue with their sewage pipes. Luckily it didn't go into the cabins. We'd return.
