My 10 yr old daughter went to camp and I thought a girl scout camp was for girls hence the name 'Girl' Scouts. Not for individuals questioning what they want to identify as and have a 'them' 'they' name tag. And even the head counselor?? Camp is supposed to be fun why even have that? Just use your given name or whatever but to subject my daughter to this type of thinking at 10? Would've never sent her there. Am disgusted with the girl scouts. My daughter got in the car crying.

I am writing this on behalf of myself and other parents I talked to at camp. We (my friend and I) were here this last weekend August 5th-7th. The camp is O.K. My friend and I went to an adult and me camp. The girl scout website was non specific as to what was really offered for that camp, a list of activities was on the website and gave a variety of activies that may be included. The forecast for the weekend was rain. One activity that was offered was canoeing, the other was archery. It was thundering which kept pushing our canoeing time back We got down there and were told we had to wait 40 minutes, and we should pick another time to come back. We said wed wait instead of dragging the kids back and forth. The girl was rude, and kept yelling at the girls while we were waiting for playing in the sand. There was no communication between staff it seemed like. All the staff are 18 year olds, there was no one we could even find half the time to ask questions to. The director looked to be really young. None of the staff even acknowledged our girls. We went to do some art, there was a girl in the art room, she didn't really give any direction other than you can make this or this. All the art the girls were interested in doing the "staff" in the art room were doing, seemed like they didn't want to be bothered. I told the girl making bracelets that she should show the girls how to make them and she said it was too difficult. We went to "lake Barbara" the girls wanted to play with the log roll thing were told they couldnt. There was one lily pad and 6 or 7 girls. Only 5 girls could be on the pad, there are apparently pool toys but none were offered. Another mom was told they had to do a swim test before they could go over there, my daughter has done red cross swimming lessons so I'm not sure how that was an issue. A mom with a disability tried to walk to the beach area, she was rudely yelled at to go read the rules. She came back up and looked at me and said she felt like she did something wrong the way she was yelled at. I wasn't really impressed with the attitudes of staff, lack of interaction with the girls, and lack of "girl scout" stuff/ethics. There's alot of "interns" from overseas, none of them acknowledged anyone adults or kids. I was not impressed at all. The CITs (counselors in training?) and staff need more people skills and more kid skills. The only one who was happy to help the girls was the guy doing archery with them. I did thank him more than once but he deserves recognition! I am a troop leader and service unit person for my area and this isn't how I interact with my kids, parents, or troop leaders. Take some advice (from camp knutson) and train your people.
