REVIEW HAS BEEN UPDATED. My son is a young teen and has loved this camp. He has attended for two years and overall had a very positive experience with the activities, staff, and environment. I became concerned about supervision after my son reported witnessing significant inappropriate behaviors/ situations related at camp while attending. As a parent, that was upsetting to hear, and I felt it was important to reach out to camp leadership for clarification and reassurance. Yesterday I spoke to Paul- the camp director. I shared that my concerns were based on two separate incidents reported to me by my son over the last two years — regarding him wittnessing drug-related medical emergency as well as inappropriate sexual conduct between campers (which had been visible to other campers). I made it clear that I was not seeking private details about anyone involved, only a general understanding of whether and how the situations were addressed- to have reasurrance that they staff is actively working to avoid situations like that in the future. Paul said he could explain the camp’s supervision protocols and provide a very generalized code of conduct piece of paper, but he could not tell me anything about how either situation was handled, even in general terms, due to camper privacy. I read that to me, significant inappropriate events have and will happen at camp- which my child or anyone's child -there may be exposed to- and parents will not know unless their child actually tells them. While I fully respect the need to protect minors’ identities, I still feel parents should be given some level of reassurance when their child reports something serious that they witnessed. As a parent, I need to feel confident that significant incidents are addressed appropriately- And that parents are informed, at least broadly about safety concerns when they arise. For that reason, and with disappointment on both sides, my son will not be returning to the camp.

Camp Ajawah is wonderful place for kids to go camping and meet friends. I have 4 kids that have gone there and they always have great stories to tell. I would highly recommend it!

Amazing summer camp! Just kids by a lake in the woods - no phones, no electronics, no fancy sport programs or expensive frills. Campfires, tents, crafts, and family-style dinning hall meals. Songs, friends, bug bites, and games! Single-gender sessions are great for young people. Incredible history of nearly 100 years. I loved going here as a camper, I loved working here in my teens. Highly recommend!

Camp Ajawah is one of the best camps in the USA! My father went here several times a summer from 1962 to 1968. He always said it was his highlight as a young boy, leaned so much from the skills they taught him their, and so many great memories! Years later when me and my two siblings moved in with my father after the divorce: our father sent us off to Camp Ajawah for 2 week periods. My two brothers loved it but I however no so much. I did enjoy time there but was treated poorly by other kids my age due to my name "Sandy" and I'm a boy with a girls name and I got homesick. I spent most of my time there sad and in nursing office crying to go home. The other kids were so mean they even needed on my bedding in the tent. I still give this camp a 9 out of 10 star!!! I just wish I enjoyed it there as much as my dad did many years ago. My dad spoke highly of Dave Moore. Dave was a big positive influence to my father... When me and my brother went 30 years after my father: we took were gifted with Save Moores positive influences. Dave's a true foundation of thus camp! Hoping thus camp keeps going. I plan to visit someday to rekindle the good memories I had there!!!! I still remember the magic fire started with magic, making candles in the sand ground, all the awards I won, mean kids, good breakfast like French toast over a camp fire, swimming in the lake and a portage day trip.
