Look elsewhere first. Long camp hours at a fair price. But in 10 days of camp, my kid was shown so many movies. Sometimes multiple movies in one day. I had reached out the director the winter before to ask about mixed reviews online including people mentioning too much screen time. She assured that wouldn't be an issue this summer, but that wasn't the reality. Behavior management involved repeated, ineffective use of time out. My kid didn't enjoy it and I wouldn't go back unless I didn't have another option.

Adventures on the Hill was an overall disappointment for my 5 year old son. While the staff were caring, and the arts and crafts time was plentiful, other benefits were not what we expected. We selected the camp based on the four hours of sport and other outside time advertised on the website. The Capitol Hill location's "outside" space consisted of little more than a sidewalk, and they often spent less than an hour a day outside. When we engaged management in the issue, they said there was not sufficient staff to take the children to the playground, since some kids complained about being outside. When we escalated our concerns, corporate responded they would look into it, but nothing significant changed. Children spent about an hour, sometimes less, at field trip locations. The children watched TV nearly every afternoon, particularly toward the end of the summer. I would not recommend this camp for an active child, though it may be fine for a more passive child who is content with arts and crafts.

My daughter had a great summer at Adventures on the Hill. She made new friends and engaged in meaningful and creative activities. I appreciate the friendliness, patience and structure the staff provided. It was exciting to anticipate what new craft project my daughter would come on with each day.

We sent our 8 year old and 9 year old to Adventure on the Hill Camp - Takoma Park Campus in the Summer of 2019 and we definitely plan on returning for the Summer of 2020. The staff was very friendly and had a great rapport with the children. I loved the fact that each week had a theme and we received a schedule for the week before the week even started. The children were engaged all day long whether they were on-site or off-site for a field trip. Every single day at pick-up, they had an exciting story to tell! The hours were fantastic and the location was very convenient as it allowed me to access the metro easily to/from work. The price was extremely reasonable and there were no hidden cost. I highly recommend this camp for children of all ages.

Adventures on the Hill has been a great summer camp for our family! My 5 year old has gone there for 2 years straight and will be there again this summer, while my 3 year old will attend for the first time this year. The program director is super responsive to all questions—big and small—and can be reached by many methods (email, phone, and even the chat window on the website). Camp staff is very friendly and is great with the kids. The themed weeks (e.g., cooking, STEM, travel to different countries) provide a variety of fun and engaging experiences to keep my daughter excited about learning. And, I love that they stay open until 6pm and accept kids starting at age 3....that means one drop off and pick-up for me! 😊 All in all, Adventures on the Hill provides excellent value for the cost which is why it’s my family’s go-to-spot for summer camp!
