GALA Hispanic Theatre is a Washington DC bilingual (Spanish-English) performing-arts organization. Its youth offerings are GALita, a ticketed bilingual children's theater series for ages 4-12, and Paso Nuevo, a free year-round after-school theater-training program for youth ages 14-19 that culminates in public performances. Since the 70s, GALA has presented a diverse range of productions, including Spanish-language classics and modern plays by Latino writers. The space itself is intimate and comfortable, which makes you feel like part of the action. The prices for performance start around 30$. Parking is limited in the area but there are 2 parking garages nearby. They have a small bar with snacks. It is accessible for wheelchairs.

★Jani TilleryI was previously a regular patron of the Gala Theater until today. I went to see a show at the Gala Theater today with my friend who has a disability that makes it impossible for her to climb stairs. The elevator stopped working at intermission so she was unable to go to the bathroom (which was downstairs) the whole show.The theater workers appeared to not understand the magnitude of not having a working elevator at an event open to the public. In fact, since the broken elevator prevented my friend from going to downstairs to the bathroom, one of the Gala volunteers asked if my friend could use a bucket to relieve herself instead. I am shocked, appalled and disappointed that a theater that purports to celebrate diversity, would put on a play about injustice while actually committing injustice while the play was going on! Access for people with disabilities should not be an afterthought. All people including people with disabilities should be treated with dignity and respect. Unfortunately, that did not happen at the Gala Theater today.
