Steve & Kate's Camp is a free-choice summer day camp for ages 4-12 held at Alexandria Country Day School on Russell Road, running June 18 to August 14. Campers pick their own activities minute to minute from a media lab with stop-motion animation and VR, coding on iPads, robotics, a sewing salon, a bakery, a tinker lab with 3D pens, sports and rec, water play, and a game room, plus a different weekly special each day. Hours are 8:00am to 6:00pm with drop-off and pick-up any time in that window, and lunch and snacks are included in the fee. Rather than weekly sessions, families buy day passes ($129/day, or $114/day at 15+) or a summer pass ($3,420 for up to 41 days), use them any day at any open location with no reservation, and unused passes are automatically refunded.

★★Rachel SemenovI wanted this camp to work for us, but my rising second grader was miserable so we didn’t use our day passes. I needed to pick her up early on the first day, so I went through the digital platform that would prep the staff to get her ready. But when I arrived: Doors unlocked, no staff in sight. Kids running/sitting everywhere, complaining to each other that activity rooms are full. I had to poke my head into multiple rooms before I found an adult to help me locate my child. They didn’t seem at all surprised that I was wandering around. Never even asked to see my ID. My daughter told me all the fun rooms that had been advertised were constantly full, so she spent the day reading in the empty quiet room. It’s possible this camp would work well for slightly older siblings who can look out for each other and are assertive with finding things to occupy their time. You’d have to really know your child is the right fit for this kind of camp. But combined with the lackluster security protocol, it was a hard no for us.
★M A1st impression LAZY. called to ask a schedule for next week, so if my daughter likes it,we could drop her off. Person who picked up the phone really lazy, cannot even nicely guide you, "it is on our website go find it" I ask if she can send it to my email or at least a link, apparently no. Probably they dont have interenet or email, may be need a training or may be dont be lazy?
★★★★★Karen Guerra2025 summer update. This is still a fantastic option with tons of stuff to do. I did notice that, on one of the first days, there was not a person sitting at the front doors to check people in after the side drop off closed and to make sure no unauthorized people were walking around. I will ask the manager about that. I don't think the doors are supposed to be locked. But the review below stating their child watched YouTube all day and there were no other activities, the children pick their activities and the options such as sewing, baking, crafting, video creation, coding, tech, gym, etc ARE available, along with the weekly changing events. There is something to be said about kids choosing their own adventure, especially during summer. To each their own, I just wish the preface was a little more honest about the circumstances. My daughter came home with a few new skills, creativity through her projects, and a new best friend on day one. 2024 summer. We had an excellent experience here for the whole summer with my 6 year old. The camp counselors were fantastic, my DD was engaged and learned lots of new things like basic sewing, how to tie knots, make bracelets, and baking. They knew all the kids by name. They never ran out of supplies or activities and always had new adventures each week. I think the only thing she wasn't excited about was the slip n slide after the first couple times. The food was pretty basic, but not much different than what she would get at home.
★M MEKONENOn the first day when I went to drop off my son around 10am both front doors were unlocked, I was able to enter and roam around freely without anyone asking me anything. I had access to all the rooms full of kids. I asked in 2 rooms where is check in, neither counselors knew until I found a third one that made a call to find the check in person. I mentioned the doors were not locked. She said she would lock them. When we came back at 3:30 for pick up, again both front doors and side doors were unlocked, no one to greet us at door, no one answered the phone, we wandered aimlessly looking for our son. We found him in a dark room watching YouTube on a tv. No baking room. No sewing machines. Nothing at all like the ads. Needless to say, that was his last day. And for lunch my small was told if he ate 1 slice of pizza he could have a popsicle, but if he ate 2 slices no popsicle.i felt scammed.

The activities are a lot of fun with animal visits, foam parties, baking, and more. The field trip during the holiday weeks are also incredible. My kids had a blast.
