After 20 years, great to be back with some old friends at the YWCA fitness center in 2022, and now looking forward to all the positive changes with recent YMCA takeover...Both the Gettysburg/Hanover management promptly addressed some longtime fitness member concerns via email and in-person...The Gettysburg facility updates and changes have been much needed and appreciated, after several years of bad YWCA executive management.
A well managed facility. Lots of recreational activities to participate in including a pool, racketball, basketball, aerobics, weights. Some of the weights and lifting equipment is outdated and need replacement. Not sure why they play the old classic rock and roll music every day. A modern variety mix would suit more users. Staff are very friendly.
Until recently, I would have given this Y a much better review. However, since this Y has merged with the Hanover Y, things have taken a turn for the worst. Some cosmetic changes have made it better looking, but that doesn't out weigh the negatives. This Y was my place to swim. Now it's hard to get in the pool because of the changes to the schedule. I know there's a lifeguard shortage, but certain programs are taking more of a hit than others. To make matters worse, they fired the pool manager. Beth was a bright spot for the aquatics program at this Y. She was a knowledgeable coach and was excellent with the youth swim programs. She will be sorely missed. With the limited hours available to swim, I will be canceling my membership and swim at Mount Saint Mary's. As a senior, the membership is half the price.
We rented their room for our Divine Liturgy on Sunday. It turned out great.
