I had a very disappointing experience at the YMCA Urbana location today. I brought my daughter, who recently turned 11 on April 28, to the Kids’ Place area after confirming with the front desk that it would be okay for her to stay there while I worked out. About 10 minutes later, I was called out of my workout and told that my daughter could not remain there because of the age policy. I completely understand that policies must be followed. My concern is how the situation was handled. I politely explained that I had received approval from the front desk and asked if my daughter could stay just for today or if I could be given a little time to make other arrangements. I made this request several times, but my concerns were dismissed. I was repeatedly told that because she was there that day, my daughter had to leave immediately. The staff member Jessica Siegrist stated that she was the manager and that what had been allowed previously could not continue. The conversation felt very cold, with no flexibility, empathy, or attempt to help find a reasonable solution. At the time, I felt singled out and uncomfortable by the way I was treated. My daughter became upset because she did not understand why she was suddenly being asked to leave. I was later told she could sit upstairs near the workout area, which did not feel like an appropriate or safe place for an 11-year-old child to wait among adults exercising. Again, my issue is not with the policy itself. It is with the lack of compassion, professionalism, and customer care in how the situation was handled. I hope YMCA leadership reviews this matter and ensures that future concerns are addressed with more understanding and respect. Thank you.

The atmosphere is on fire. Happy exciting positive. The staff is excellent. I'm a bit busy but that's fine. Plenty of parking. Overall great vibes. I would highly recommend it.

Way too expensive for the limited gym equipment and unbelievably short weekend hours. Also most of the stair master machine buttons don’t work, and the safety stop button is right in front of you so you can easily press it by accident with your knee. It’s like they bought the cheapest annd poorly designed equipment. They don’t run ac or utilize the blackout blinds when it’s 70-80 degrees outside.

It has a lot of amenities, but a membership here is probably only worth it if you need childcare services or enjoy the fitness classes. Also very disappointed there's not a single tampon disposal in ANY bathroom. They also place the trashcans across the room so you have to throw any period products across while on the toilet lol

My husband and I attended this facility for the first time today because my son and daughter-in-law hosted my grandson‘s five year old birthday party there. Upon entering, we were incredibly impressed with how clean and modern the facility looked. The front desk was very helpful and friendly. We were early, so we were able to wait in the lobby, which was very well appointed. When we made our way to the room where our party was being held, we were promptly greeted by the party host. Unfortunately, I cannot remember her name, but she was the lovely young lady who I overheard her saying, has graduated in the last year or so. She was awesome! She was super helpful to us, and very good with the kids. My husband and I live about an hour away, so this is not somewhere that we would be able to visit routinely, but I can assure you that, if we lived in the area, we would absolutely look at memberships because we were so impressed with the facility and all of the great program they seem to have For families, and young adults. Important, my grandson seemed To have a wonderful time and I’m sure it made his fifth birthday party very memorable! If you’re looking to join a wonderful facility, or just rent the space for a birthday party, I highly recommend!
