Windy Hill Play runs a small, nature- and play-based summer day camp in Durham for children ages 5-9. Rather than a high-turnover program, it offers a steady summer community grounded in outdoor exploration, collaborative play, and guided group activities. It runs Monday-Friday, 7:45 a.m.-4:45 p.m., from June through early August; older children can apply as leaders-in-training.

My 4 year old daughter spends the afternoon at Windy Hill Play most days of the week and absolutely loves it. She has had so many fun experiences and made so many great friends. She loves all of the adults and I know they take wonderful care of her. She is a very high-energy kid and they always manage any challenging behaviors with grace. I know she feels their kindness and compassion because she is disappointed on days she doesn't get to go there! I am a single parent and truly feel like Mariah, Princess and everyone else at Windy Hill are an integral part of my support system. I can't recommend WHP enough!

My kids’ home away from home! I immediately felt confident leaving my kids here after a bad previous experience. Mariah and Princess and the team are unmatched. We love Windy Hill!

Words cannot express how grateful we are for WHP. Princess and Mariah are absolute geniuses. The environment is safe and clean, and the entire staff care so so deeply for these children. Our son absolutely loves it there and has grown so much in his short time there. The caregivers are so committed and involved in the children’s care, and they are so wonderful and patient. They create amazing activities, games, art projects, science experiments, etc for the children. The access to nature is incredible for our son- he loves talking about the bugs and worms he sees in the woods! Mariah and Princess’s approach to community care is innovative and meets families where they are. This is truly “creating a village” in real life. In a world where profit is usually the priority, it’s so refreshing to be in a community that is committed and focused on the children instead of their margins. We are so so grateful for the WH family and their incredible care.

I can’t say enough good things about Windy Hill. Our daughter thrives in the welcoming and opened space. Seeing her make friends and be excited to explore brings us so much joy. The support and connection that Princess and all the other Windy Hill staff bring is like none other. We are excited to watch her grow and learn even more with Windy Hill as a part of our village!

My family and I are so grateful for Windy Hills! When we moved to the area we had some trouble finding permanent daycare for our 16 month old but luckily Princess and Mariah were so welcoming, kind and easy to work with. It’s always nerve wracking to leave your kid with new people but they provided regular updates and our toddler seriously has the best time and comes home in the best mood after being at Windy Hills. So happy and relieved to have found this gem!
