Water Town Swim School, at 6705 W Flamingo Way S in St. Petersburg, teaches children roughly six months to four years old water safety and early swimming in a saltwater pool. Founded in 2020 and run by Maria Di Fiore Solanki, classes are aimed at making very young children comfortable in the water and use songs and toys as teaching tools. The school offers recurring lessons rather than a summer camp.

Powered by GoogleBEWARE! This was, hands down, the WORST swim instructor experience I have ever witnessed. Unprofessional doesn't even begin to cover it. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this person had zero interest in actually teaching — they were more concerned with checking their phone, lounging poolside, and barking vague directions than providing any real instruction. Not only was their attitude dismissive and impatient, but they also created a completely unsafe environment. They barely watched the kids, gave no individualized guidance, and seemed genuinely annoyed when asked basic questions. It felt like they had no formal training or clue what they were doing — it was chaos disguised as a lesson. If you're looking for someone to inspire confidence in the water, teach actual skills, or — God forbid — care about your child's safety, look elsewhere. I wouldn't trust this instructor to lifeguard a puddle, let alone teach swimming. This was a total waste of money and time, and frankly, a liability waiting to happen. Avoid this disaster of a swim instructor like your kid's life depends on it — because it just might.
We are just 2 classes in and love it! I can already notice a great difference in my 3 year old. Maria does a great job at making the hard parts of class fun with songs and toys to distract the kids.
The instructor is knowledgeable, kind and very encouraging! The saltwater pool is beautiful and well maintained. The parental involvement is a wonderful business model.
My 9 month old currently takes lessons with Maria and they have been great! Maria takes the time to make him comfortable and keeps class fun with songs and toys. I also love how she teaches me what to do with him so we can practice outside of the lessons. I am SO happy I found Water Town Swim School!
We love Water Town Swim School! Maria is such a great instructor. At first I was really worried though. My daughter was crying her first lesson and I thought "oh no, is she a Democrat?" However, Maria is so great with the kids. She was such an enthusiastic, caring, and child friendly instructor, that by the second class our daughter did not cry at all and was being propelled 5 ft underwater with no issue! My wife and I are so happy she doesn't cry like a liberal anymore in the pool. We love that our kids are learning water safety and at such a young age. Thanks so much for all your help Maria! We definitely recommend Water Town Swim School!
