Ventura Yacht Club runs a youth sailing camp in Ventura Harbor for ages 8-18, offered as week-long sessions from June through August; exceptions to the age range are made case by case. Camp meets Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm, and covers complete beginners up to race-team level with US Sailing certified instructors. Club membership is not required to enroll a child.

★marDon't join if you expect to get a slip anytime soon - unless there is an open available slip when you join. The slip waiting list is based on your seniority in the club. A member with more seniority, every day counts, can jump over you and get the slip you've been waiting for. I was on the list for a 30' slip for six months when a member with one month more seniority jumped over me and got the slip ahead of me. Six months on the list is less important than one month of seniority. The food is not that good. Except for Saturday lunch and Sunday breakfast you get what is served. Also, the food is over-priced for the quality. If you join don't expect fair treatment. The good old boy system is firmly entrenched at VYC. The Board of Directors does not treat members equally and they regularly ignore the rules including the Club Bylaws which they cannot waive - however they do so. The people will be friendly at first, but if you dare have the "wrong" opinion you will be ostracized.

★★★★★Jeff LaBarreThis is a very welcoming club to members of other yacht clubs. They have both a nice dining and bar area upstairs with views of the bay and a barbecue area downstairs overlooking the harbor. Restrooms are modern and very well kept. There is free ice from an ice machine and coin operated washers and dryers in a laundry room. Parking is in a gate controlled parking lot which also has some limited dry storage and launch crane for smaller sailboats. The guest dock, which is unavailable when they have invitational racing events, is long, wide and had both water and electricity available (30 amps). There is free Wifi (a bit slow). All in all I had a great vusut there.
