Valeo Futbol Club runs a tiered set of summer soccer camps at the Valeo Sports Center, an indoor-outdoor complex at 125 Wells Ave in Newton. Camps are split by age and level: Minions Camp for ages 4-6 uses themed challenges and team games; Mini-Champs for ages 7-9 works on fundamentals and game understanding; Advanced Academy for elite town and club players ages 8-12 focuses on technique and decision-making; and Pre Academy for club players ages 10-14 prepares players for Pre-MLS NEXT and MLS NEXT. A separate Ironman camp covers speed, strength and conditioning for club, high school and college athletes. The club has operated in Greater Boston since 2003.

★Dr BWe recently attended Valeo FC’s 2010 tryouts with high hopes, but what we experienced was nothing short of disappointing and frustrating. My son plays for another reputable club in the region and is a solid, coachable defender. He had already received a team offer from his club, but we were looking to explore additional opportunities to challenge him and help him grow further. Valeo FC turned out to be the worst tryout experience we've had to date. We arrived 20 minutes early, and my son went to register. From the start, it was clear they were unprepared. Registration dragged on so long that they eventually abandoned the process of taking names altogether. They hastily divided the kids into defenders, midfielders, and attackers, and that was it — no names taken, no organization, no accountability. My son only got about 20-25 minutes of meaningful playtime out of a 90-minute session. And since no one took attendance or evaluated the players properly, there’s no way they could follow up or even know who he was. The coaches and staff gave off a vibe of disinterest and disorganization. It felt like they couldn’t care less about identifying or nurturing talent. How can you evaluate kids without even knowing who they are? This isn't just disappointing — it’s a glaring example of what's wrong with youth soccer development in the U.S. If clubs like Valeo are responsible for identifying and developing young talent, then the future of U.S. soccer is in real trouble. I would never entrust my son's development to this club, nor would I ever give them a dime. They need to take a long look at how professional clubs conduct tryouts — with respect, structure, and genuine interest in the kids and their potential. Avoid Valeo FC. There are far better and more professional programs out there that actually care.
