The Renaissance Child runs weekly Monday-to-Friday technology day camps in Northern Virginia, with its McLean sessions held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Dolley Madison Boulevard. Camps are grouped by program rather than age and cover LEGO WeDo and VEX IQ robotics, Scratch and game coding, MinecraftEdu game-based learning, littleBits circuitry, Kano and KIBO, running from a Jedi Apprentice Maker's Lab for grades K-2 up to VEX IQ robotics for ages 9 and up. Classes are small, staff are certified teachers and computer-science, engineering and game-design college students who are background-checked and CPR-trained, and each day ends with a Showcase where campers present their projects to parents. Full-day campers bring a nut-free lunch, the camp provides two snacks a day and uses playgrounds and fields daily, and paid before care (8:30-9:00am, $30/week) and after care (4:00-5:30pm, $60/week) are available.

This is our third year at Renaissance Child and we plan on continuing next year. The low student:instructor ratio is great and they learn so much while they think that they are just playing! The instructors are all very knowledgeable about technology and are great role models for the kids. We LOVE it!

There is always something new to challenge them, and plenty of diverse activities to hold their interest. The counselors are enthusiastic and share their interests in engineering and technology. We've enjoyed this camp year in and year out! This year in particular my 11-year old has enjoyed learning about coding in the Python segment. The 8-year old tried stop motion animation and robotics.
