The Kellogg PEAK Initiative

My son has been attending PEAK camps for the last four years. He has done LVC, day camp, family cooking classes, cultural days, and bike camp. There are so many options for kids of all ages. Every activity he attends has also been positive. He is introduced to new activities-things that take him out of his comfort zone-as well as the ability to participate in the things he loves. Every year he counts down the days until he gets to attend LVC- a testament to level of comfort and joys he gets from the campers, the staff, and the experience. I highly recommend sending your child to PEAK, an opportunity to have fun, feel accepted, and be exposed to a number of valuable activities.

We’ve been part of the PEAK Initiative for over four years now, and it has had a tremendous impact on our kids’ leadership development. They started as early as first grade and have grown so much through the program. I can’t recommend PEAK enough—not only is it affordable, but the staff is incredibly consistent and genuinely caring. Over the years, we’ve seen the same dedicated staff show up time and again, whether it’s during day camp or at Lake Valley. It truly makes a difference. One of the things we truly appreciate about the PEAK Initiative is their summer overnight camp. It gives kids the opportunity to experience nature and enjoy over 10 days away at camp. Year after year, our boys look forward to it—they always come back with great stories, new friendships, and a sense of independence that continues to grow each time. It’s been such a meaningful part of their summer. Over the past four years, we’ve had the chance to share our positive experiences with fellow school team members, and it’s been so rewarding to see many of them sign their own children up for the PEAK Initiative. Their families have become returning participants as well, which speaks volumes about the impact of the program. We truly can’t recommend PEAK enough—it’s been a transformative experience for our kids, and we genuinely hope others get the chance to experience the same.

I am incredibly grateful for the fun, safe, character building my son has experienced at PEAK over the last 2 years. I feel like they keep safety as a top concern, and fun as second. The variety of experiences insures there's something for everyone. I'm grateful for this opportunity right here in MKE for my kid to visit gardens, museums, learn new skills and meet new friends.

I’m a mom with hearing impaired, i thought this place was great idea for my son to go to PEAK for the first time. he mentioned how he having a lot of fun there, today he broke down crying when he find out he no longer going to PEAK I was confused and not being clear of what going there , my son very shy I alway told him to speak up when something is bothering him , today he got kicked out of something he not comfortable with ummm 🤔 also last week someone bullied him and pushed him of the chair but did nothing.

Overall the camp is a good idea especially for a nonprofit camp for 11 days. However, what I dislike mostly is the parents are absolutely not involved with their children behavior until after the incident has occurred. A staff member will then call you to pick up your child right away and want to discuss with you at the very end as to why the child is being kicked out. At times I feel like my child is at an adult boot camp instead of a children’s camp. I feel a children should be given a second Chance and the parent should be allowed to know what is going on before situations arise. When a child is sent home they call more than they ever do just to make sure someone will be there waiting on your child and you are given very little grace period to find someone. I feel as a parent if your children experience any little behaviors what so ever please do not waste your time sending them to PEAK!!!! This will be my child’s last year attending PEAK after 3 years. The experience was appreciated but the lack of tolerance they have for children who may struggle in some areas is disgraceful. There are other camps that will work with the parent and the child and come up with solutions to avoid being thrown out. Just the thought if a child really is enjoying the experience of being a peak with staff and friends and then the next day they are told they have to leave and go home?? How do you think a child would feel?
