Deer Isle Yacht Club is a small club in Sylvester's Cove in Sunset, Maine, founded in 1925 to promote small boat sailing and to teach juniors to sail. From late June to early August it offers sailing lessons to members and the public. Its core program for kids about 8 to 12 runs two-hour lessons most weekdays in a fleet of six Optimist dinghies, and a swim test is required. Hour-long rowing lessons by appointment introduce children as young as five to boat handling and safety.
