Swim Float Swim teaches infant and toddler water-safety swimming in Longmont and Boulder for ages six months through five years. Its core programs are one-on-one lessons run 10 minutes a day, four days a week: a four-week course teaching infants 6-15 months to roll onto their back to breathe, and a six-week course teaching toddlers the swim-float-swim sequence. It also runs a 30-minute weekly parent-and-infant group class and Funday lessons for ages 2-4 who have finished private lessons.

Powered by GoogleAs a prior learn to swim instructor, I knew when I had kids of my own I would send them to swim float swim one day. Almost 10 years ago, I experienced a 12 year old, on swim team, who had been in swim lessons since age 3 actively drowning when her goggles were kicked off by another swimmer. I had to jump in and save her during swim practice. Being a “strong comfortable swimmer” and knowing how to survive in the water are two totally different things. My son (3) has been swimming in the program since 8 weeks old and my daughter is now 7 months in (also started at 8 weeks). While we’ve had ups and downs (my son screamed for several months in his lesson) we’ve since had a breakthrough and he’s actually swimming from edge to edge of the pool at age 3. Some recreation league swim lessons can take 7-10 years before this milestone is reached, let alone water safe. My daughter, at 9 months old can roll from belly to back and float for 60 seconds. For us, it’s been a non-negotiable for our kids to be safe in the water. I was willing to do whatever it takes to feel comfortable and confident around water. Yes, this program isn’t for everyone but anyone who sticks with it will tell you it does work. It’s a huge commitment for us to be there daily or weekly over 3 years but the reward far outweighs the risk. If you’re ready to commit and sick with it, there’s no question that swim float swim will yield the strongest water safety solution for young children. It’s truly life and death for us. I’m so thankful to Judy, Kristin, Sarah and Julie for giving us the gift of water safety!
I can’t recommend SFS enough. I have two children in the program and have seen nothing but positive results. We previously tried another program that focused on water comfort, which actually led my toddler to jump into the water without real survival skills; definitely not what we wanted. After just six weeks at SFS, I felt confident my oldest could handle an emergency, and she quickly grew to love swimming. The staff has been incredible, even offering additional classes at no cost when there was any regression. My youngest is extremely strong-willed and was even asked to leave a similar program, but SFS successfully taught her the swim-float-swim methodology within six weeks; and now she loves the water too. I recommend this program to any parent even remotely interested. I’ve seen older kids who completed it and are like fish in the water, and now my one-year-old niece is thriving with Judy and her team as well. The one thing I’d tell parents: fully commit. It is hard to watch at first, but don’t give up before your child builds confidence; trust the process, it’s absolutely worth it.
Swim Float Swim is AMAZING. Having kids can be stressful. Knowing your kids are safe around water is priceless. When I was a kid my parents put me and my 3 brothers in swim float swim, now that I am a parent my kids are in the program. It is so nice to be able to take my kids to the resivors, rec centers and pools. But the best part is being able to have fun and enjoy that time knowing we are ALL safe. Open water is dark, it is hard to see anything under the surface of the water, knowing how to float is a life saving skill. As your kids get older they will be around water more and supervised less. Give them the skills to be safe. Give them the skills to enjoy swimming and all that comes with it.
My granddaughter is taking lessons at swim float swim and everyone there is truly incredible! Our family spends time on the lake over the summer and it is extremely comforting to know that the kids would know what to do if they fell into the water. Both of my daughters went to swim float swim as kids and they love the water and are great swimmers…now it’s time for the next generation. My granddaughter is loving the water and knows how to swim and float at 19 months! Thank you Judy and team! We’re so lucky to have you here teaching our little ones.
We are so grateful for everyone at Swim Float Swim. Our two 2-year old twins just completed their 6-week lessons and it has far exceeded our expectations. They have two drastically different personalities and Judy and her team were patient, yet firm and consistent with them, which we appreciated. There were some tears, but both kids talk about going back to swim everyday and ask continuously to see their teachers. We are excited to continue with weekly lessons going forward. Ms Rachel was incredibly patient with our son, who is very particular about who he loves. After 6 weeks, he is not only floating on his own, but swimming underwater for much longer than we ever thought possible! We think he may be the swimmer of the family! Our daughter immediately connected with her teacher, Ms Esbe. She cared so sweetly for her, while still giving her all the skills needed in just a short amount of time. She now wanted to go in the pool and bath, when it was always a fight before! We saw so much process in our younger kids after only two weeks, we started our older son in lessons as well. He is four weeks in and swimming better than 2 years of rec center lessons. Ms Sarah is the best and she definitely has the 3/4-year old communication perfected!!
