Steve & Kate's Camp - Chicago Lakeview

I dropped my son who is 6 years for the first time today at the lakeview location. We signed up for the daily passes.He had a backpack, water bottle and other items. When I picked him up, it took a long while for him to be located even though we called in advance. I noticed a large number of items in the lost and found. Many bins of water bottles, stacks of towels, hangers of clothes, etc. While waiting, I overheard another parent complaining that a kid had been kicking and punching his. My son came out very upset that he lost his favorite water bottle. I called and asked Sara about their policy on how they watch younger kids and their belongings. She said this happens all the time and they want to encourage independence among the younger campers. This is just an excuse to likely be short staffed and not caring about kid’s belongings or appropriately watching these kids in any sort of supervised manner. It seemed like chaos at pick up and no solution was offered. I was very concerned to hear about kids getting hurt. So, I asked my son if he liked the camp otherwise. He told me he was slapped by another child with applesauce thrown at him and the kids were very rude. He said he told a counselor but nothing was said to me at time of pick up. When I called Sara again she was aware of the incident already but didn’t know my son was also involved. Not sure what I paid for. I send my son to the Y for half the price and he always comes back with everything. I’ve heard never had him complain about kids hurting him. Sara did offer a full refund then of our remaining passes which we will be accepting. But now, we have to arrange for alternative care. Very disappointed with this camp.
