Starz Dance Galaxy

My daughter, who is now 10 (almost 11), started dancing at Starz just before her 3rd birthday. She did recreational dance in multiple genres until she was 7, and then joined the competition team 3 years ago. To say we love this studio is an understatement. Our experience has been wonderful every step of the way—from the recreational teachers to the choreographers, artistic director, and owners. They truly love each child and treat them like their own. My daughter has grown tremendously as a dancer over the past 7 years and absolutely adores her teachers and teammates. Starz has given her not only strong technique and training, but also confidence, discipline, and lifelong friendships. We are so grateful to be part of such a supportive, positive, and inspiring dance family. I couldn’t recommend this studio more!

I had a bad experience with one of my daughter teachers. It was my daughter Birthday weekend and my court order parenting time with my daughter. Her teacher had told me they had a mandatory practice, and they her practice was more important than spending time with her Father. My daughter just turned 7, she still a child. Her time with her father and her family is 100 times more important than some dance classes. Her statement seem sexist, rude, and her tone was very disrespectful. My daughter was very scared of her teacher and I told her no one should make a 1st grader scared to be a kid. Especially in my very specific case on my time that is court order I have the right to take my daughter wherever.. I think she is hazing my daughter and its effecting her confidence, and mental state. I don't think the school as a whole is bad, but that one teacher was rude. I don't know of it was because I was a male or black but her tone was so disrespectful, disturbing and disgusting. She either sexist or racist. In the end I should not be disrespected for any reason.

I am not sure about their dance classes, but I do not recommend their summer camps. When I dropped my daughter off, all the kids were sitting at tables up against the wall playing on tablets. They looked like a wall of zombies. It reminded me of teenagers sitting at lunch all playing on their phones. I do not send my kid to a dance camp to play on a tablet. I send my kid to dance camp to dance. I didn't let her take her tablet with her, so I had to set her up with a coloring page and markers while the person checking in just sat there eating her breakfast. I don't even know if she got any dance lessons. I felt like a horrible mom for leaving her there, so I immediately called grandma to go pick her up. 😩

This is our 7 yr old daughter's second year dancing competitively and first year dancing competitively at Starz and we could not be happier. The owners, artistic director and office manager do a wonderful job of creating a positive environment for the dancers and their families. All of the staff are extremely caring, organized and professional, which is a big departure from our experience at the studio our daughter attended last year. The artistic director and other choreographers at the studio are true artists and it is clear that the Starz staff truly value each student as individuals. They identify each students' strengths and areas that need improvement while also fostering confidence and creativity in their students. My daughter had stopped dancing around the house for fun last year which she always used to do... she still loved dance in general but seemed to have lost her joy while doing it... since she has been at starz, she has once again found her joy of dancing. I am so thankful to have found such a nurturing environment with such a high level of instruction where I feel she will be challenged and realize her potential while also maintaining her love of dance. As mentioned, the level of instruction is phenomenal and my daughter has already improved greatly since starting at starz. I can't say enough good things about this place and can't wait to continue watching our daughter grow in her dance journey with the guidance of the wonderful staff at Starz. Update: we just had our first competition with this wonderful team and I can now say, my appreciation and admiration for the artistic director, the teachers, owners, and other dancers has only grown. It was an extremely organized, encouraging and positive experience, such a difference experience from our experience at a different studio last year! In addition, our daughter has improved immensely and has gained confidence as a person and a dancer. I recommend this studio to anyone looking for a challenging yet family like and nurturing environment!

I am incredibly unhappy with my experience with Starz dance Galaxy fern park location in Casselberry. I know that every location is different that is why I specified it's location. My daughter was four when we put her in classes. A thing to know about my daughter is she had a stroke when she was three and was diagnosed with epilepsy at four. I had informed the school and especially the teacher of my daughter's disabilities cause by her stroke and the teacher was not patient with her at all. She constantly kicked her out of class and would tell me all that she did wrong in front of the other parent's who were not aware of her condition. I felt that was very unprofessional. When I expressed my concerns with the management they said they would speak to the teacher but nothing was resolved. My daughter knew she was being treated differently and would beg me not to take her to class cause she would just get kicked out again. It broke my heart! I spent a lot of money to get her recital dress and she didn't even get to attend and even if she did she would know her dance because she kept being asked to leave. The school refused to refund me my money. You should treat every student equally and if there is a problem with the child talk to the parent privately! If your teachers cannot work with children with special needs please let that parent know because the child should not have to suffer because the teacher is too impatient for them!
