I was diagnosed with cancer and have been attending the Livestrong program . This program really helped me with transitioning from a cancer victim into a cancer survivor. This program put me with people that had cancer but also helped me deal with the diagnosis of it. Very grateful for the program. I just hate it is ending because there is not any cancer support group in our community. I wish we were able to continue because cancer support is critical for n our community! Keep up the good work YMCA!
I was from out of state and this Ymca is wonderful. I used the pool Several days in a row, which was a nice cool temperature. The shower stalls are simply amazing. Each separate stall has a bench in it. The staff was extremely pleasant. They even have a spinner to get your swimsuit Almost dry immediately.
My son is currently taking swimming lessons and we are about halfway through our 8 weeks and it has been a bit unorganized to say the least. The staff are extremely nice but none are on the same page. We have seen the aquatics director twice the whole time, mostly the assistant runs the lessons with different staffers every week. My son has learned very little and from what I have watched he has little time in the water during the 30 minute lesson. I know he would learn more if lessons were more than once a week. Luckily we have signed him up with private lessons 3 days in a row so he can actually learn to swim. I would not recommend swimming lessons through the YMCA.
I've been a member for 4 years. The staff is excellent. The drawbacks for me are the warm pool needs cleaning. It is almost always is very dirty with a ring. Another issue for me is the catering to the hospital and children. I guess that is what this Christian-centered agency is about, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Also individual members cannot compete with the deep coffers of the larger donors. It is amazing the things this Y has to offer its membership - classes , pools , exercise equipment, etc. I still appreciate it, but speaking from a personal perspective. Just cleaning the pools would add another star (at least).
