Kids are spending most of the time outdoor, they get pool time and make lots of friends. Staff is very friendly and attentive.

The best place for a kid to spend the summer!

★★You can't have cheese

So in July/August of 2022, I(12 years old at the time) got enrolled in the teen camp and went to the orientation. It sounded fun, as they promised lots of fun activities(fishing, team building, archery, rock wall) and a field trip every Friday. Let me mention that I also saw online that there was a no phone policy. On the first day we had to pick up trash and sing camp songs as we walked around the camp. There was this one ceremony(that was optional for teens to attend) where everyone chanted and the counselors did fun challenges among each other. Occasionally there were some dress up challenges where you would cheer for the best dressed regarding the theme. Either way, the whole daily ceremony was very loud. We had a premade weekly schedule that consisted of activities and places we were to go throughout the day. Some of the activities required certain staff to supervise, and when that staff wasn’t there we had to go to an alternate location. One benefit of the activities was that we swam in the camp pools daily(unless there was a thunderstorm) and I was able to practice my swimming skills. However, we were never fully occupied all day. Sometimes we just sat in a cabin room and did nothing! Well that was me, at least, because the other teens(and some counselors) were occupied with their phones(I didn’t have a phone at the time btw)! It eventually got so boring that I ended up bringing a sketchbook to draw in, and it got FILLED. Oh, and we never went on a single field trip, and they apologized with Chick-Fil-A. I didn’t go fishing or rock climbing because there was no staff there for that. Even the other teens were mad too, and we got bored real quickly. Speaking of the other teens, they were friendly but not the most inclusive, and it was a little difficult to make friends with them, as we barely had any similarities. Most of them were there for at least a year, and being new and all, it was hard to relate. Every week, new people came, and others left, while some of us stayed. I still didn’t make much friends, but I guess that’s just my social anxiety. Overall, the camp experience was okay at best. I, personally, didn’t feel like I belonged in Camp Eagle Rock of the YMCA. I hope this helps! And this is just my experience, meaning that they could have improved, and that you might have a better time there than me. PS: The counselors don’t go by their real names. They’re really funny names(ie: Cheese, Sunlight, etc.) Sorry if this was really long I just had a lot to say
