South Avenue Arts runs five weeks of art camp for kids, tweens and teens, starting the last week of July and running through August, with a different theme each week. Campers work in a range of media on projects aimed at building art skills, and when weather allows they work outside under a tent as well as in the back studio. The Garwood center at 221 South Avenue also runs painting and drawing classes for children, teens and adults, plus parties and gallery events.

South Avenue Art Studio in Garwood is a very special place for people who want to learn to paint and for the advanced artist. There is a warm welcoming atmosphere in the studio, well equipped and has a variety of different art teachers as well as workshops. I have attended many of the classes and have never been disappointed. Mark Saenger teaches landscape painting and is by far the best art teacher I have ever had. He teaches us the principles of art, does amazing demos, shares the secrets of different techniques that he has learned throughout his career as well as assists us one on one. The owner Sharon is an incredible artist who is always continuing her education to become the best she can be and shares her knowledge with her students. Sharon is extremely helpful to all of us and makes her studios a wonderful place to be.

Great place for beginners or people that want to improve their oil paint skills. I have had Mark Seanger as my instructor, and I can say that he is an excellent oil painter as well a great communicator of concepts and techniques, which had helped me improve and see results in a short period of time. By the way, the place has a nice atmosphere with soft music playing in the background and coffee ready to keep you up during evening sessions. Highly recommend!

South Avenue Arts is a wonderful place to learn art. There are great instructors in oils, water color, pastels, acrylics and other media. The classes include landscape painting, still life, portraiture and other topics for all ages and skill levels. Perfect for beginners and a great community of experienced regulars and teachers. Check out the summer camps and night classes. I have been taking classes since 2016 and enjoy the instruction and the people. The owner Sharon has created a very welcoming place and is a great painter. Mark Saenger is a patient teacher who is supportive and has helped me get better with every painting. I will keep coming back.

I took a mixed media and a drawing class here so far and will be definitely coming back for more! The space has a charming, creative and relaxing vibe. Both Sharon and Maria are wonderful talented creative women- caring and supporting. It was an excellent learning experience and also therapeutic for me. Thank you South Avenue Arts for introducing me to so many wonderful people and teaching me a lot about me and my talents!
