Skyland Camp for Girls is an independent overnight camp in the Smoky Mountains at Clyde, west of Asheville, family-owned and operated since 1917. It serves girls ages 6-15 in 7-, 17- and 36-day sessions (plus mother-daughter weekends), with horseback riding, swimming, archery, tennis, arts and crafts, musical theater, hiking and camping. It stays small - no more than about 65 campers - and reports a very high return rate.

As an educator, our high school rented out Skyland Camp for our annual high school senior retreat. The staff and activities could not have been better! Sherry and her team went above and beyond to help ensure that our group of 200+ teenagers were entertained, well-fed, and created one final last memory before graduation. There were so many things to do including team games, pool swimming, visits to the horse stable, and indoor activities (the music and lip syncing were a huge hit)! All of this was done in the midst of a heavy rain storm as well! Skyland Camp is easy to get to from Asheville and I highly recommend them for any school, corporate, or community group looking for a retreat location!

My daughter, a rising sixth grader, just spent the first of what I hope will be many visits to Skyland Camp for Girls. I picked Skyland because of the smaller number of campers accepted per session, the location, the swimming pool, the variety and number of activites offered, and the philosophy, as well as its established history and family ownership. My daughter had a wonderful time, made several new friends, seems more comfortable with herself and her strong, independent nature, and she loved the food. I am chuffed, and we have already committed for next year.

My granddaughter loves this camp which has a long and rich history. This was her 3rd summer here and she has already been signed up for 2018!

MY daughters found out about Skyland Camp for Girls at a Camp Expo in Arden. Kay is the camp director and the "doorway" to this wonderful camp. She cares about young women and the girls can feel this in everything she says. This camp's "bells and whistles" is actually it's rustic unadulterated charm. The Big House houses the younger girls and is the hub of the camp. The older girls are housed in wonderful cabins with screened in sleeping areas. In addition to daily activities of Archery, horseback riding and swimming, the girls are treated to off campus hikes an overnight and tubing. The camp crescendos each session with a final musical theater production in which everyone participates. This camp has a long history and while it is very Up to date in many ways, it preserves the feel of more pastoral days without cell phones and technologic distractions. The focus of this camp is on team building and healthy competition among females. It's all about being together, being silly and being your authentic self. My girls are 10 and 12 and started when the first was eight. We have asked them if they would like to try another camp. The answer is a resounding "NO". That speaks volumes.

It's a beautiful judge free place. I spent all summer there and even came back for some other camp activities in the same location.
