Camp Shakespeare is the Shakespeare Theatre Company's summer program for youth ages 6-18, offering one-, two-, and three-week sessions between late June and mid-August at its Penn Quarter (DC) and McLean, VA locations. Younger campers (6-11) explore Shakespeare's stories through creative play, theatre games, and art, while teens (12-18) train in acting, text analysis, and stage combat, each session ending with a performance. Scholarships are available and DC youth campers can add after-care from 3 to 5pm.

★★★★★Shauné HayesI recently visited the Shakespeare Theatre Company Klein Theatre to see 44: The Musical about Barack Obama’s presidency, and I had a really enjoyable experience overall. The show itself was excellent, engaging, entertaining, and very well done. We truly had a great time. I was pleasantly surprised by the seating setup as well. We sat in Row M, seats 1 and 2 on the end closest to the aisle, and the view of the stage was great! The theater has stadium-style seating, with each row elevated higher than the one in front of it, so there were no issues with obstructed views or people’s heads blocking the stage. I also appreciated that there seemed to be plenty of room between rows, which made the seating feel comfortable and not cramped. The only challenge was parking. We parked in a garage around the corner, but the signage directing you from the garage to the theater entrance wasn’t very clear. Because of that, we ended up walking around the block on a very windy day to find our way. Overall, though, the theater itself was wonderful, the show was fantastic, and I would absolutely return for another performance!

We thoroughly enjoyed A Wild Duck, so gripping and cathartic, and without spoiling it, you come to realize that this was probably inspired by Othello, coming later this year to Harman Hall, while providing a unique window into Norwegian culture that still feels very relatable. At this and the larger Harman Hall, STC is constantly searching for hidden gems and inventing new ways to present classics, like Comedy of Errors, which ran last year. After seeing many performances here over a span of 12+ years, I've found the casts and creative choices consistently outstanding. This is truly a world class theater.
