Port Sailing School runs junior sailing programs for ages 7-16 out of New Rochelle, partnering with Echo Bay Yacht Club of New Rochelle and Harlem Yacht Club on City Island. Adventure Sailing gives kids a relaxed environment to sail a range of boats including C420s, O'Pen Bics, Optis and 23-foot Sonars, with boating safety, aids to navigation and knot-tying; Optimist programs start beginners toward skippering their own boat, and Little Skippers is a half-day option running 9:00am-12:00pm for younger campers who may not want a full day on the water. Four two-week sessions run each year beginning in late June.

★Leon RamcharranThought about not writing this as I wanted to forget the experience. The instructor (one specifically) took us on the water and basically used it as an opportunity to ask us to do sailing maneuvers he had not demonstrated or taught so we were just taunted and made to feel like we knew nothing. We were new to this, which is why we were taking the beginner course. There was sp much attitude and when we asked to be shown what to do before asking g to do it. Made for an uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous experience on the water. One other client on the same boat also attempted to help me report the situation but the office seemed to want to backup their employee. In the end I had to get another Instructor to complete the course but at that point I had lost my desire to want to sail. This is not a cheap course and I expected ot to be tricky just not dangerous or abusive. I even forfeited the free use of their sailboats (part of the package you buy to be trained as a beginner) as I wanted nothing to do with this business. I am writing this now as a few friends have asked me about my sailing lessons at Port Sailing as they are interested in picking up sailing as a hobby. There is a written test which is not as difficult as they make it out to be as long as you study the materials. The live instructions from this school by a certain instructor is far from safe for beginners.

★★★★★Aylin BilikWe had a wonderful experience at the Port Sailing school this month. On the July 4th long weekend, my hubby and I attended their 3 day 101 sailing course. Other than the first few hours when we went over the book, the whole course was on the water and all hands on. Our instructor Emmanuel was patient, fun and experienced. They offer two free practice sails after completing the course and getting certified. We completed these practice sails this past weekend. All on our own! Booking the rental was super easy. The boats are old and basic but that is enough to learn sailing. We want to do their Caribbean winter course next. I recommend Port Sailing school to anyone who wants to learn sailing.
