Placer Nature Center runs themed nature summer day camps in Auburn for children ages 6–14, with hands-on science investigations, crafts, sing-alongs, puppet shows, hikes and outdoor learning. Camp runs for about six weeks from mid-June, each week focused on a different theme (such as Geology, Pollinators, Dino Days and Water World). It is an environmental-education nonprofit operating since 1991.

★★★★★Aazhie RyakesReally awesome trails and education center! They has little salmon fry (babies) that will grow and be released into the streams when they are big enough! Cool interactive displays and activities for kids. There are two gardens and a store, as well as a reading room and history exhibits. Definitely a cool spot for field trips and nice hikes. Many bird habitats and bat houses around. Lots of evidence of animals, we saw a herd of deer and ground squirrels along with many birds. There is an outdoor construction of traditional Maidu structures that is being improved. Lots of mushrooms popping out this time of year, but not too muddy. Employee told us they are open rain or shine, so be sure to bring jackets and sturdy shoes! Guided tours available, the hiking trails are all clear of poison oak, but don't go traipsing around because the poison oak is allowed to grow to provide food and shelter for native animals.

★★★★★Linda BagnallWhat a spectacular discovery right here in North Auburn! Scenic drive only 30 mins from home in Lincoln to beautiful setting in the woods. Placer's own volunteer Master Gardener, Richard Huntley gave a terrific presentation on square foot grid gardening. Never have i heard of it along with many other gardening tips to make it easier, more enjoyable and waste less time, effort and water. The 2nd presentation was on grow bags for small or challenging areas. Really good info! Thank you Kathy, Mary and Linda who volunteer to keep this place thriving and amazing.
