Sacramento Splash is a nonprofit environmental-education organization whose Youth Environmental Leadership Camp (YELC) is a free one-week day camp for students entering 6th or 7th grade. Groups of 15 campers meet Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Splash Science Center in Mather and take a field trip each day, covering climate and air quality, energy, water, food and waste, and land use while collecting data with the tools scientists and engineers use. Campers also complete two environmental volunteer events and a small fundraiser for a partner nonprofit. Camp weeks run in June and admission is by application.
