Powered by GoogleThe sauna needs serious maintenance. There are huge gaps around the door, and all the hot air escapes through them. Because of that, the sauna barely gets hot enough, and you have to sit there for a very long time just to start sweating a little. It completely ruins the experience. I’ll gladly update this review once the issue is properly fixed.
It's fine. It's like all of the other SF YMCA facilities, a little outdated, locker rooms smell a little bit funny, and people can't seem to use the pool without water walking in the fast lap lane. But the price is cheap and the facilities are clean.
I signed up for personal training sessions at the gym. I told them I would only take two months of classes while I learned how to use the machines, specifically November and December. In December, I got sick (they require you to notify them a month in advance if you get sick or provide a medical report to receive a credit). I told them I would postpone the classes, but they continued to deduct money from my account like a subscription. None of them told me it worked that way. Hans, the trainer, claims to have given me those instructions, which is a lie. Valerie claims to have spoken with me, but I didn't speak with her until I inquired about the payment that was processed without my permission. Veronica also claims to have told me. I asked them for proof that I was informed or a document authorizing them to make monthly charges. They have no proof, and yet they refuse to refund me $320. Make sure you ask all the questions before accepting a service; they will look for any excuse to steal your money. My son has taken swimming lessons and attended summer camp with them, and I've never had this problem before.
First off HUGE shoutout to Jaspar and Ashley! They work at this YMCA and were so welcoming right when I walked into the gym. I came with a lot of questions about the gym and they were extremely patient and understanding. They told me about all the amenities and the open basketball times, so I can do drills. The gym itself is a bit older but has all the basics you need to get a good workout. There were no “gym snobs” and people were respectful on the equipment not taking forever, or on their phones. The basketball court is big and they have rotating group classes you can take to change up your workout routines! The locker rooms are clean and have modern code lock systems, so you don’t need to bring your own lock AND they have towel service!! Most gyms took away clean towels, so that’s a huge bonus. Lastly the pool and jacuzzi is cleaned every week, which makes you want to use them. I’ve tried most of the gyms in the peninsula and the San Mateo YMCA is my favorite! I ended up joining as a member with Jaspar’s help and couldn’t be more happier!
The staff is very friendly, always ready to help, especially a girl named Fátima, very educated. Great place for kids to practice varied sports, great space and easy parking. If you want to do some sport do not have to be a partner, just pay a slightly higher rate of value and okay, you have the right to participate. Location and clean blocks, we always see people cleaning the rooms. Good for family sports.
