Park'n It Day Camp

This camp is not suitable for my 4 years old. He was youngest one there and he is just too young to find any activities to do himself. He liked all bouncy castle stuff the first day, but after that he refused to go everyday. My boy was happy and outgoing who loves to interact with adults. It's obvious that there is no one that he could play with. This camp is probably good for kids that are older and like to explore things by themselves. The staff and management system seems very organized, so I have no problem with that at all. I might try them out when my kids are much older.

The Oakland location has so many issues I would really think twice about trusting your child to their care. If you have a special needs child- please please don’t come here. There were issues from the very start but there are issues that I just can’t get past. The first being that if you bring up an issue to the director her first response is to lash out at you by responding with lies about you or your child. This was incredibly off putting and made me question whether I should leave my son there but I took a chance. It was the wrong chance. On very hot days I was promised there would be water play. There wasn’t. I’m so glad my son had an adult with him to corroborate the truth. At one point I was worried a few kids might get heat exhaustion- I expressed my concern and there was no active response- only lip service. On several instances I witnessed staff reading books or not supervising the kids- especially in the bouncy house. I voiced my concern- and of course I was told they would be spoken to. I only returned to this location bc the emeryville location. Was closed. I got a call from my son’s aide who was screaming at the kids to leave my son alone. They were repeatedly hitting him in the face and head. He was not the only one but I’m sure the parents of the other child weren’t notified. Not one staff person observed it or even tried to stop it!!! My son is 6 and incredibly mild mannered get repeatedly slapped/hit by a child years older and more than 2x his size!!! I wasn’t ever notified from the camp! They didn’t call to discuss it- I knew bc I got a call from my aide and her screaming in fear of him being hurt sent me in a panic to get my son who was traumatized. They had been playing a game called dead man- which should have never been allowed! My son screamed for help - that he was being hurt and none of the staff responded! I was completely beside myself. When I asked what would happen to the child - they said his parents were contacted - not that he would no longer be allowed in the bouncy house- not that my son would be safe or kept an extra eye on. They also said they would have a chat with the staff that were “watching” the bouncy houses. I was more than upset and frustrated since this wasn’t the first incident at this location. I still don’t have a copy of the incident report bc their system has an issue. I asked to speak to someone higher up- not an option. This location needs a new director at the very least and at the most all new staff with a lot more training and actual commitment to kids and their well being. The little ones are often roaming alone and look lost and lonely. I noticed this on multiple occasions. The snacks that said are available are not actually available and when I took a tour there were flies all over the fruit. I have been so disappointed with their response and reactions to very serious issues. The camp as a whole might be ok, the response of the area supervisor needs to be more reactive and actually try to resolve the issue - especially when it comes to safety, but the concept and activities are attractive if you can find a location that has the staff to keep your little safe and happy. Emeryville had 2 amazing counselors - Jess the Director and Santiago were just 2 of the wonderful staff- there were many others. They took a special interest in my son to make sure he was taken care of and having fun. The difference between the 2 camps is staggering. One last thought- when I take my son to camp And there is an issue- the first response shouldn’t be to call him and his mother a liar and accuse him of behavior that never happened, especially when there was another adult witnessing what happened the whole day.

Steve & Kate’s in Oakland has been amazing for my 4 and 6 year olds. This is their first year in summer camp and I didn’t know how it would go. I have one very shy guy and one pandemic baby, so outside everyone’s comfort zone. But it’s been the best. The camp has tons of fun activities for the kids to choose from everyday. Some things they look forward to doing everyday (looking at you bakery and game show) and other selections change based on how the day is going for them. The flexibility of check-in and check-out make it easy to adjust drop off and pick up around my work schedule, and not having to know my vacation plans ahead of summer was fantastic. BUT FAR AND AWAY the best part of this camp is the director, Genevieve and the counselors (or summer camp teachers as my guys refer to them). They are so kind and compassionate with the kids. They make everyone feel special, noticed and like they belong. They share great updates with me at pick-up and have gone out of their way to make this a great experience.
