Old Colony YMCA - Stoughton

I joined the Stoughton YMCA about three months ago on a two-adult, one-child family membership that costs nearly $100 per month. In reality, I'm the primary person using the membership, and I mainly use the pool for lap swimming. After a severe car accident, swimming has become an important part of my recovery. It's essentially my physical therapy and one of the few ways I can safely push myself athletically. Because of that, it is incredibly frustrating to repeatedly see posted lap swim hours on the MotionVibe app, only to arrive between 4:00–6:00 PM and find the limited lap lanes occupied by children who are not participating in a program. These are often open swimmers crossing over from the recreational swim area into the lap lanes. I've approached lifeguards on multiple occasions and asked if the lap lanes could be kept available for their intended purpose. The responses are usually along the lines of, "Sorry, this is a community pool, there's nothing I can do," or "I'm the only guard on duty and can't leave the stand." I don't blame the young lifeguards. As a former YMCA director, I understand they're often doing the best they can with the resources they're given. My question is: where is the Aquatics Director? Are staff receiving regular in-service training? Why is a posted pool schedule not being enforced? As a paying member, it's frustrating to be told that the schedule is essentially optional. The YMCA charges membership fees, program fees, and fundraising support while also benefiting from tax-exempt status. Yet somehow there aren't enough trained staff members available to properly manage and enforce the pool schedule. If lap swim times are posted, members should be able to rely on them. I also have concerns about the outdoor pool. Throughout much of 2026, it has remained closed or had very limited availability, yet membership rates have not been adjusted despite the reduction in services. I want to support the YMCA because I believe in its mission, but the lack of consistency, communication, and accountability in the aquatics department has made my experience disappointing. 2/5 stars. The facility has potential, but management needs to do a better job supporting staff and delivering the services members are paying for.

Yes… this place is a community center of fun and awesome only, there’s a huge gym in one room and a basketball court in another. Also recognizable faces like cross, hamstrings and iron colum. If you feel so inclined to sleuthy ponder you’re way down to the bowels of the ymca you can even find a niche cycling room. However I warn you to STAY OUT of the men’s locker room because it is just like the Easton ymca, it’s atleast 210° Celsius at all times and there is hemoglobus amounts of activily shriveling shrews due to heat… while working in the gym there is a LBS(pound ) rat large munching dude that ponders the gym leaving drool everywhere.

Absolutely disgusting services from the front desk person to the main manager nastiest attitudes. They also don’t try to do what I feel that the YMCA is supposedly standing for which is helping out the community and making sure that people that want healthy ways of living to be able to live and shower if they want to as well to be limited because they want to offer their own recognizance these people are absolutely insane. I have never in my 39 years of life, knowing how the YMCA started and why the YMCA started and to see them not go with like the most General part of what they stand for be done in the manner that they do it over here in Stoughton but once again it is Stoughton and you know it’s kind of a stuffy area so it makes sense and I mean, stuffy in the battles way as possible

So, I have been a member of the Stoughton YMCA for some time now. In fact, both my daughters went to the Stoughton Y camp for years, but I'll get into that a little later. So I love the stuff at Stoughton Y. Lately, the Y is going downhill fast. No one ever clears up equipment that is left everywhere all the time; I spend about 15 minutes cleaning up and putting things back. Yes, the person who uses it should put it back, but if they don't, the Stoughton Y stuff should be cleaned up. Please see the pictures below. Also, due to the stuff not cleaning up and re-stacking the weights right, my $1,000 cell phone got smashed, and I had a witness that saw the whole thing, it cost me $300.00 to fix, and I had the report done to the Stoughton Y and the witness and still they said sorry not helping you fit your phone :(. Ok, on to Stoughton Y camp! Last year, my 7-year-old attended the Stoughton Y. We paid a lot of money to have her go there. Well, my 7-year-old dug up a used rubber. That's all I'm going to say. Did Stoughton Y do anything? Yeah, "sorry," that was really about it. I love the stuff at the Stoughton Y, but really Stoughton Y. UPDATE 3/9/2024 Nelson has to be the worst person to run the Y gym in Stoughton. He never returns emails and is never at the gym, so you can talk to him and ask about new stuff or add new equipment. The only time Nelson is there is for a photo op. It is so badly run that it is very sad. I can't believe Ellen Green thinks this man can run the Stoughton Y gym. I heard he is going to a different Y, and I can't imagine how bad that Y gym will become. I am so very SAD that this man, Nelson, has no idea how to run a gym or get back to people.

This YMCA is great for small kids and families. But I will say that the bathrooms/changing rooms really need an upgrade. Kinda make you not want to use them 🤢🤮 Staff is friendly but some give you different answers in regard to activities. My toddler loves to play there which I highly recommend but again those bathrooms are a turnoff ….
